Argus Monitors
Habitat
The Argus is native to Australia, Indonesia and New Guinea and parts of the Torres Straights. The Argus inhabits the grasslands in southern New Guinea. In captivity the enclosure should be large. About 8 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 3 feet deep. They require a full spectrum lighting set up and need these special lights for nutrients. The argus should be kept at 80-90 degrees fahrenheit. The humidity levels should be kept fairly high. Overall the argus should be kept in a hot and spacious enclosure.
Diet
Argus monitors are carnivorous so they only eat meat. In the wild they will eat fish, crab, or even other monitors. In captivity the argus eats hard boiled eggs, mice, raw turkey, worms, and large crickets. They should be provided with a large water bowl deep enough for the monitor to soak in it. The argus has a very high metabolism and should be fed every day. A snack every day is better than a large meal every now and then. You don't want to make your pet over weight. The diet for the argus should consist of only nutritional meals and quite frequently.
