Iguana
Diet
My iguana's name is Churro and he takes very little care. He eats a variety of fruits, flowers and vegetables. I feed him something different every day. Though his meals always include lettuce. I slice up strawberries and throw them in his bowl, along with lettuce leaves most of the time. Iceberg lettuce has no nutritional value so he is fed other leaves such as kale or spinach. Iguanas also eat a number of flowers including hibiscus, dahlia, and alfalfa Iguanas can eat any fruit or vegetable you can think of. Some fruits and vegetables they eat are apples, bell peppers, broccoli, and prickly pear. They are herbivores so meat and bugs are not part of their diet.
Habitat
Wild green iguanas are found naturally in southern Mexico, Central America, and most of South America. Feral populations can be found in parts of California, Florida and Hawaii. Churro was a wild caught green iguana from Florida. He was kept as a pet in florida and then sent to Georgia with other green iguanas. He was one of only two wild iguanas in the batch. As a pet iguanas don't need special UVA and UVB lights. This keeps the iguana happy and content with his surroundings. I have provided a heating pad for my iguana and a log hut for him to go in the shade. He is kept in a five foot by three foot cage. The cage has chicken wire around the sides so he can climb on the walls. Overall the enclosure should be no lower than 80 degrees fahrenheit in surrounding air and about 90 degrees in basking areas.
