Sulcata Tortoise
Habitat
The Sulcata tortoise is native to Africa. Their natural habitat is hot and dry. However, in captivity they are easily kept at room temperature. The enclosure should be kept at a high temperature of 80 to 85 degrees but the tortoise is able to rome around free. Natural sunlight and heat is good for your pet. The habitat should be large or you should let your tortoise walk free often. The Sulcata can weigh 70 to 100 pounds so they need plenty of space to move around.
Diet
The Sulcata tortoise is completely vegetarian. Their diet includes all sorts of vegetables. Carrots, cabbage, iceberg lettuce, or spinach are very good for the tortoise. The tortoise can eat any vegetable but should not be offered protein. Too much protein will cause the shell to grow larger spikes. As the spikes get larger the the shell becomes weaker. The shell will eventually cave in on itself and may not be fixable. The diet should consist of only produce.
